Ship owners have been advised by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji to cease all travels in the Central and Eastern Division with immediate effect.

However, Chief Executive, John Tunidau, says this notice does not apply to emergency evacuation runs.

Tunidau says the notice by the Authority will remain until further notice.

He adds those who fail to abide by this advisory will be charged under the Maritime Act.

Small boat operators are also advised to take necessary precautions to secure their vessels.

The Chief Executive says ship owners must also provide the necessary support to their ship masters and keep safe during the passing of the cyclone.
