The Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar is urging women in the country to take the bold step and visit health centers and hospitals to be screened for breast cancer.

Akbar made this call while launching the women’s expo and breast cancer awareness program at the LDS Primary School in Suva yesterday.

She reminded the women that early detection is important and this can save lives.

Meanwhile, the church has donated items including furniture, pillows and blankets to the CWM Hospital’s Oncology Unit.

“This awareness should not only for the public; this awareness should be for ourselves as well. We have daughters, we are women ourselves, we have grandmothers and we have mother-in-laws, so please go back and examine your own households.”

Breast and cervical cancer are the leading causes of death for women in Fiji.
