Akbar to meet Seventh Day Church GS

April 5, 2019 10:50 am

Minister for Education Rosy Akbar will today meet with the Seventh Day Adventist Church General Secretary Pastor Joe Talemaitoga.

This is to discuss the Church’s intention to close down Vatuvonu Adventist College in Cakaudrove, Vanua Levu.

Today’s meeting is being convened after the Church’s senior officials met with the school staff and management yesterday informing them of their decision not to reopen the school for classes in Term 2.

The teaching staff were told to vacate the school premises once Term 1 ends.

FBC News understands staff were also informed that students who are members of the Adventist Church will be relocated to Navesau Adventist College in Tailevu.

Non-Adventist students will have to find their own school. The school has a roll of 178 students, 48 of whom are boarders along with 21 teachers.

The reason for the closure is yet to be known.

The meeting will be held at 12.30pm

Managed by the SDA Church, Vatuvonu Adventist College was re-opened by the government in 2011 after it closed down in 1984.
