Air Berlin names Pichler as new CEO

Fiji Airways chief executive Stefan Pichler has been named as the new Chief Executive of Air Berlin to replace Wolfgang Prock-Schauer.

The Wall Street Journal reports Pichler will take up his appointment in February next year.

Pichler joins Germany’s second-largest airline from Fiji Airways, where as chief executive he engineered the airline’s return to profitability.

He is also a former chief executive of Thomas Cook AG , and held various management positions at Germany’s flagship carrier Lufthansa AG.

Fiji Airways says it will issue a statement later today.
