The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation is not the only media that benefits from the Asia Pacific Institute Broadcasting and Development Funding.
Communications Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has clarified the funding provided in the 2019/2020 National Budget is the contribution by the government to be a member as a subscription to AIBD.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the allocation helps local media to connect with other broadcasters in the Asia Pacific region.
He says Fiji TV has also been attending meetings organized by the AIBD.
“The Honorable members rational for removing this is apparently this is only benefitted by FBC. This is actually a contribution by the Fijian Government to be a member as a subscription. Now Fiji TV also participates in this and other organizations can also participate in that. There is a choice.”
Opposition MP, Adi Litia Qionibaravi today moved a motion for the funding to be decreased by $70,000 stating only FBC benefits from the funding.
The motion was defeated whereby 26 voted for and 23 voted against the motion.
