In order to expand the Agriculture sector, farmers must do their work for the market.

While speaking to farmers at Lagalaga in Macuata, Agriculture Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy says afterwards then it’s about making profit.

Dr Reddy says this way agriculture business will flourish.

“Out of that profit, part of it you will keep it or you will save it, the other part you will re-invest and you expand. That’s how supermarket chains have expanded, hotels have expanded from one hotel, and they’ve got two hotels, three hotels, four hotels.”

Dr Reddy says they want farming to be treated as a business.

He adds they cannot depend on part-time or leisure farmers for the expansion of the Agriculture sector.

The Minister reiterated that they cannot continue to pour money on farmers who don’t take agriculture as a serious activity.
