Agriculture Ministry to revive beef scheme

A new site has been has been identified by the Agriculture Ministry to rehabilitate cattle stock and assist farmers increase beef production.

This has been confirmed by Permanent Secretary Uraia Waibuta who says it’s part of the Ministry’s development program.

“This particular program is targeted in increasing numbers of cattle, improving the breeds that they have and also assist in some way or the other in terms of fencing
And also some of the stock yard that needs to be constructed to round of the animals but definitely we can’t deny the fact that beef is always short especially according to the market demands that we have, this is apart from the hotel demand that we have in the tourist sector.”

Waibuta says beef is in high demand at the moment, fetching premium price but many farmers are unable to suspply consistently because of poor farming methods and lack of cattle stock.
