The Ministry of Agriculture is working towards increasing crop production in Taveuni.
As part of a Memorandum of Understanding with Biotec, the Ministry will work on using lab grown tissue cultured dalo to aggressively replant the crop on the Garden Island.
Biotec Limited is the first commercial tissue culture laboratory in Fiji which produces disease free and high quality planting materials through commercial tissue culture.
Agriculture Minister Inia Seruiratu says Biotech limited will supply 3000 tissue cultured dalo variety to the agriculture ministry for the Koronivia Research Station.
“We hope to promote and create innovations that can contribute to excellence and that can be replicated and shared locally for the benefit of our farmers”
Seruiratu says the tissue cultured dalo will be beneficial for the farmers as it will increase the crop numbers as well ensure the produce is disease free and of a high quality.
