The Agriculture ministry will continue to promote the use of technology and farm mechanization to improve agricultural production in Taveuni.

Minister responsible Dr. Mahendra Reddy made this comment during his recent visit to Taveuni where he met Rahul Kumar – a dalo farmer in Qila village.

Kumar received irrigation material assistance worth over $13,000 through the Export Promotion Program under the demand driven approach of the ministry last year.

He’s the first dalo farmer to engage in mechanized irrigation systems on Taveuni, with his irrigation idea receiving commendation and support from the ministry to boost production.

Since receiving the assistance, Kumar’s production has vastly improved.

This is evident through his weekly harvest indicating the potential for further growth with his revenue increasing almost three-fold from $15,000 -$40,000.
