April 12, 2012 7:05 pm

The Agriculture Department will start its rehabilitation program today with the distribution of seeds to farmers in flood affected areas.

The Taiwan Technical Mission together with the Department’s Research Division had raised 10,000 seedlings that were to be distributed to farmers affected in the January floods.

According to Director for Extension Division, Uraia Waibuta, seeds could not be distributed when they were ready as the second flood occurred.

Waibuta says the distribution will begin from the worst affected farms.

He says the seedlings can be transplanted straight into the fields that have been cleared and prepared for planting.

The Department will also be moving in to assist farmers in clearing debris and silt from their farms so they can begin their land preparation and planting.
