Agreement of cooperation signed

A $US4.2million agreement was signed between the Ministry of Local Government and UN Habitat yesterday afternoon to increase resilience in informal settlement highly vulnerable to climate change and disaster risk.

Minister responsible Parveen Kumar says over the next four years,
sixteen informal settlements in Nadi, Lami, Lautoka and Sigatoka will be supported.

“Over the next four years the communities will be supported to prioritize their resilience project such as drainage, access roads, bridges and flood protection.”

Out of the total amount, $US2.3million will directly support community infrastructure.
