The National Disaster Management Office in collaboration with nine agencies in the vicinity of Suva will be conducting a Tsunami Drill today.
This will be the third Tsunami Drill exercise that the NDMO has conducted this year as they continue to create public awareness on Tsunami response plans by the agencies.
Eleven roads in the vicinity of Suva will be closed from 11:20am to 12.00pm for the drill.
These include Victoria Parade and Junction to Gordon Street, Junction of Pratt Street and Renwick Road, Loftus and Victoria Parade Junction, Gladstone and Victoria Parade Junction, Victoria Parade and Junction to Constitution Avenue, Gladstone Road and Junction to Constitution Avenue, Gladstone Road to Government Building New Wing, Thurston, McGregor and Gordon Street Intersection, Holland Street Roundabout (Junction to Knolly Street), Knolly Street and Junction to Pender Street, Disraeli Road and Junction to Pender Street
The Tsunami Evacuation exercise will see the activation of all the early warning sirens from Kinoya to Lami Town and evacuation exercises.
The public and business community within the vicinity are advised not to be alarmed as this is only a drill exercise.
