Minister for Economy has highlighted the need to mainstream and recognize building resilience into national policies of countries and development planning.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Building a Resilient Pacific, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the countries need to be able to infiltrate climate change discipline in the budgetary process of the country.
Sayed-Khaiyum also urged the ministers from fellow Pacific Island countries to be more transparent in the measurement of vulnerability.
“So these are not so very easy issues but from a finance perspective, the point I just wanted to make is that sourcing finance that is at attractive rates and be able to work with the private sector is a huge challenge to all of us and this is something that we need to work on”
Also present at the panel discussions was Cook Islands Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mark Brown and Samoa’s Minister for Finance Sili Epa Tui-oti.
