Fiji’s Minister responsible for Climate Change has expressed the country’s interest to continue to work together with New Zealand in reducing the impacts of climate change in the Pacific.

Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum commended New Zealand for their continuous support for Fiji’s presidency in the Conference of Parties 23 last year.

Sayed-Khaiyum says both countries can not only work together but learn from each other and collectively achieve their goals.

“Recently the New Zealand government has made an announcement of an additional 2.5 million New Zealand dollars in funding this year and part of this funding will be used to build a Pacific and Agricultural pavilion Cop 24.”

While speaking to the University of the South Pacific students at a public lecture yesterday, Sayed-Khaiyum reminded them about the levels of vulnerability posed by climatic actions.

He also thanked New Zealand’s Climate Change Minister James Shaw for their efforts to reduce the impact.

Meanwhile, the public lecture was based on the theme “We are all in this together: New Zealand’s journey to net zero" and was delivered by the New Zealand Climate Change Minister.
