Fifteen participants were part of the Fiji Women’s Right Movement’s Grow Inspire Relate Lead Succeed Club which was held this week.

The three day program for advocacy and girls’ empowerment was held in Pacific Harbour.

FWRM Executive Director, Nalini Singh says the program focuses on empowering girls to become stronger advocates for issues relating to them.

She says girls are vulnerable and relegated to the sideline in communities and they’re on the forefront of violence.

Singh says it’s important to provide support and build the capacities needed to improve girls’ rights.

This is the second unit of participants for the GIRLS Club after the first group graduated in June from the Girls Theatre programme, a 3-year leadership programme for girls aged 10 to 12.

The program uses methods such as sports, theatre and arts to empower girls and the Club was formed as a platform for graduates to continue their capacity building advocacy on issues like discrimination and bullying.
