In order to maintain a lucrative tourism industry, the Pacific Island States need to take proactive measures now.

South Pacific Tourism Organization, Chief Executive, Christopher Cocker says the Pacific’s biggest asset is our environment which is very vulnerable.

“We’re very vulnerable and fragile in terms of our Economies and natural environment and our greatest assets is our people, our culture as well as our lands and oceans and if we lose this we have no tourism to promote in this case.”

Cocker says Fiji has taken the lead role to be proactive by securing its tourism income generators.

He adds this is a model the rest of the Pacific can follow in order to be protected from vulnerability.
