ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly begins today

Major issues related to seas and oceans and climate change will be the subject of a keynote debate at the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly that begins in Suva today.

ACP JPA secretary general Dr Patrick Gome says given the location of the session in the Pacific region, the keynote debate will focus on ’Seas and Oceans’.

“This also means we have our voice to raise that adaptation and mitigation the conditions that are causing the climate to be this tenuous condition of those who are polluting, should take a stand – 2 degrees must be at least the minimum by which overall global climate change should be occurring and in fact lower than that.”

Countries in the Pacific like Tuvalu, Kiribati and Fiji are already experiencing the effects of climate change…

Fiji has identified 600 communities that are affected by the rise in sea levels.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will officially open the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly this morning.
