June 26, 2018 6:24 pm

The Accident Compensation Commission Fiji will be focusing on road safety once it receives its allocation from the 2018/2019 National Budget.

Chief Executive, Parvez Akbar says investing in road safety is a crucial element for the Commission taking into account the level of awareness that can be created.

Akbar says the Commission will also be working closely with relevant stakeholders such as the Land Transport Authority.

“There’s time and money that can be invested into road safety and that is just one example of an initiative that we will be certainly focusing on other than things like awareness of the Accident Compensation Scheme itself.”

Akbar says the expansion of the services provided by the Commission will also be an area of focus in the next financial year.

He adds the Commission as a long term focus will work on looking into areas of work-related injuries and deaths including sports compensation.

The Commission was allocated one million dollars in the 2017/2018 National Budget.

The National Budget will be announced on Thursday night and will be broadcast live on FBC TV from 7.30pm.
