FBC News is in possession of a series of email exchanges between an Associate Professor of University of Fiji where she makes racist references against the Indo-Fijian community.

This is while the Professor was engaging in a heated argument with the President of UniFiji Law Students Association Filipe Bainivalu.

According to the emails Dr Liliana Kuridrani remains unapologetic despite being called out for her racism by Bainivalu.

The senior academic of the University of Fiji justifies her racist comments that compare Bainivalu to a barking ‘Indian Dog’ saying it’s an iTaukei idiom which is often used.

Academic and wife of sitting SODELPA MP, Dr Litiana Kuridrani is seemingly in hot water after her racist comments to a law student.=

In an exchange of emails Dr Kuridrani has referred to Filipe Bainivalu as a barking Indian dog.

When questioned by Bainivalu that she is being racist by saying that he’s barking like an Indian dog, Dr Kuridrani responded by saying there is nothing racist in the statement.

She claims it’s a common iTaukei idiom saying Bainivalu should ask his colleagues to translate it for him.

She says the phrase is used for people who cannot come forward for a face to face dialogue but keep barking around.

When contacted by FBC News this afternoon Dr Kuridrani says she has no comments to make in regards to the email exchange as it is a non-issue.

She says there was no malice intention and she was speaking to him as an iTaukei student.

Dr Kuridrani also says she stands by her statement and the matter is now being handled by the school management.

Bainivalu in his exchange with Dr Kuridrani while labelling her remarks as unethical had stated that he will forward the email to the acting Vice Chancellor, the Permanent Secretary for Education and the University’s Registrar for investigation.

Meanwhile Bainivalu says he will make an official comment on the issue tomorrow after meeting with the acting Vice Chancellor and Dr Kuridrani.
