An academic who studies religion and cults says the Grace Road Church would use sophisticated means of communication to lure followers.

Speaking on the Australian program, ‘The World’ on Monday, Professor Ji-il Tark says other than the use of social media, there would be clear messaging.

He made the comments in light of the arrest last month of the Grace Road Church Founder – Shin Ok-ju who is alleged to have assaulted and confined some 400 of the churches members.

“The use the study of the doctrine and one of the characteristics is they’re telling a lie, they use the many cultural events or many things to recruit people.”

An investigation into the allegations by Fijian and Korean police continues.
