About one hundred bridges around the country need maintenance.
This has been confirmed by the Infrastructure Minister, Jone Usamate after receiving requests from Yalavou villagers in Namosi to build a bridge for them to get across the Sigatoka River.
Usamate says they will look into the request.
“Seventeen of these are existing bridges, 17 of these will be proposed in the next budget but we have to look at this request together with the other requests. Which one is the priority one and see how we can put that into the budget given the resources that we do have.”
Usamate says roads near the village will also be a major focus for the Ministry as most of the students walk 15km to school.
He adds they will ensure that school bus services are available soon for students around the area.
