Abide by time designated for the use of fireworks

The Mineral Resources Department is calling on people to strictly abide by the time designated for the use of fireworks this Diwali season.

Director, Dr. Raijeli Taga says people can still use fireworks from 5pm to 10pm daily and but on the day of Diwali fireworks should be used from 5pm till mid-night.

Dr Taga says those who do not abide by the time given can face a penalty of $400 or face 6 months imprisonment

“For retailers they are not allowed to be selling fireworks to underage children, to minors , only to adults over 18 years old so any one 18 is not allowed to be purchasing or to be sold fireworks.”

Meanwhile, officers from the Mineral Resources Department and Ministry of Industry and Trade will carry out their inspection till Diwali day and will commence inspection prior to New Year celebration again.
