The Sugar Cane Growers Council is urging all farmers to show good returns from the grants given to them to plant sugarcane under the Cane Development Program.

Chief executive, Sundresh Chetty, says the government is providing cash grants with subsidies on fertilizers and weedicides so that farmers are not burdened.

Chetty says it becomes the duty of the farmers to ensure they get good return from the crops.

He says it is the responsibility of the farmers to ensure more cane is available for crushing this season.
