A partnership approach where every citizen is considered family was the vision of the late Activist, Mahatma Gandhi.

Today, as India celebrates its 70th Republic Day, Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Vishvas Sapkal believes this vision is being realized between the people of India and Fiji, through bilateral relationships.

Sapkal made this statement at the flag raising ceremony at the India House in Suva this morning.

The Indian Government also reiterated its continued support for Fiji’s development.

“We are assisting Fiji in Small and Medium Enterprises scheme. Our Prime Minister, has given commitment to assist Fiji with USD $5 million and we are in the process of fulfilling all that commitment.”

Sapkal says the 70th Republic Day is extra special as this year also marks the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.

To continue the republic day celebration, a dance team from Punjab will be performing at Suva’s Sukuna Park tomorrow.
