A month-old-baby now has a new lease of life after undergoing heart surgery at Suva’s CWM hospital today.

The baby is the youngest patient to be operated on by a team of heart surgeons from Australia, New Zealand and the US who are in the country conducting free heart surgeries.

The baby’s Mother Tulia Tukainavo is beyond thankful that she can hold her son in her arms, knowing that he’ll be healthy and well.

“I am so happy as my son went for the surgery today, I am very happy”

Surgeon Jayme Bennetts says this is the 25th year for the organization to conduct heart surgeries in the Pacific.

“I think this particular mission has done more than 800 cases over last 25 years with fairly good outcomes”

Meanwhile the group of heart surgeons have conducted 16 successful heart surgeries over the week they’ve been in Fiji.
