Fiji has recorded 90 cases of suicides and 97 cases of attempted suicides as of Friday last week.

Of these reported cases, 8 suicides and 12 attempted suicides cases involved children under the age of 17.

This was highlighted by Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho during the Prize Giving Ceremony at Suva Muslim College.

Qiliho says he specifically chose to speak on the subject of suicide, as students are about to embark on their school holidays, and this is a time where temptation is rife.

He urged the students to think about their future and all the sacrifices made by their parents and guardians.

The Police Commissioner also highlighted the issue of bullying and cyber- bullying as the use of social media has increased.
