85 evacuation centres open in the North

A total of 85 evacuation centres are now open in the Northern Division.

There are 3,375 evacuees taking shelter in these evacuation centres in Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata.

Most of the evacuees are in the evacuation centres as a precautionary measure.

Most of them as well was previously affected by TC Yasa and living in tents.

Ilai Kuli from Dreketi told FBC News, they have learnt their lesson from TC Yasa when they failed to prepare on time.

Kuli is also grateful that the same evacuation centre they were in the last time has been repaired and is now safe for the evacuees.

Kuli and his family are taking shelter in the Kindergarten classroom at Maramarua District School in Dreketi.

The roof of the classroom was blown off during TC Yasa.

There are ten families in the settlement and they are now all taking shelter at the school.
