800 Fijian communities affected by climate change disaster

An extensive mapping and profiling project has identified 800 communities that are affected by climate change disaster.
Acting Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Luke Daunivalu says of this total, 45 have been identified as vulnerable with the potential to be relocated in the next 5 to 10 years.
‘’So far we have relocated 3 communities and those three communities are in Vunidogoloa in Vanua Levu, the 2nd in Narikoso in Kadavu and the 3rd in Denimanu village on Yadua Island in Bua’’.

The next state relocation project will be Waciwaci District School in Lakeba, Lau.
The ministry is conducting a workshop where participants are looking at national guidelines to relocate communities as a result of the impact of climate change disaster.
