8 years for attempted murder

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for attempting to murder his partner.

The Lautoka High Court convicted Mohammed Shaheen for one count of attempting to murder Rovina Lata.

Lata left Shaheen to go and live in Lautoka with her daughter, after she found another partner.

The perpetrator later saw Lata with the other man in the city and questioned her.

When the victim said she did not want to stay with Shaheen, he got angry and stabbed her.

The medical report and the doctor’s evidence revealed that the woman was severely injured.

Shaheen has to serve a minimum of 8 years before being considered for parole.

The Court has also ordered a permanent Domestic Violence Restraining Order.
