77 die from breast cancer: MOH

The Oncology Unit at Suva’s CWM Hospital has attended to 80 cases of breast cancer so far this year and 123 cases last year.

Speaking at the Pinktober awareness program in Saweni Lautoka, Health Minister Rosy Akbar says they’ve recorded 56 confirmed cases around the country this year while 282 cases were recorded last year.

Of this 56 cases recorded, one is that of a male.

The Minister says the ministry has also recorded 77 mortalities recorded from the period of January to July this year while 141 people died from the killer disease last year.

She says they’re working actively with the Cancer Society and relevant agencies to promote early screening and treatment as a way to save lives against breast cancer.

Pinktober provides a platform for stakeholders and communities to work together to raise awareness on the prevention of breast cancer.
