730 people booked over the weekend

A total of 730 traffic infringements cases were recorded over the Christmas Day long weekend, including 11 for drunk driving.

Director Traffic, Mahesh Mishra, says a joint operation between Police and the Land Transport Authority was carried out to ensure that the roads were safe for all users.

“A total of 730 cases of traffic infringement is noncompliance of seat belt , careless driving , driving without driving licenses and other offenses that we encounter in our operations and we had eleven arrests that were made over the weekend and the arrest were made for drink and drive.”

331 people were booked for speeding, five for careless driving, 28 drivers were booked for overloading of passengers, 21 drivers and passengers were booked for not wearing seat belts.

345 other offences were also recorded, which included driving without a license, having a defect vehicle, and illegal operation.

Mishra is urging drivers and passengers to be more vigilant on the road to avoid any more tragedies as we approach the end of the festive period.
