A 65 year-old security guard has been jailed 10 years and 7 months for raping his adopted daughter several times early this year.
The court heard that the man had raised the girl – who is now 17 years old – from infancy and provided for her education up to high school.
The first incident happened on a Saturday morning in the 1st school term of this year.
The court heard that the girl did not scream or call out for help because she feared a beating.
The second incident happened on the morning of July 5th when he returned from work. He carried out the offense twice on the day.
In delivering her ruling, Judge Justice Achana Wengappuli stated that the Victim Impact Assessment Report reveals that the victim is still having the effects of her traumatic experience.
The man will be eligible for parole after serving six years.
