July 3, 2017 6:18 pm

Children from more than four thousand families will benefit from the budget allocation of six point eight million dollars provided by the government for the Child Protection Scheme.

Minister, Mereseini Vuniwaqa, says the scheme has been allocated a higher budget to cater for the growing demands.

“An allowance range from $25 to $60 per child depending on how old the child is and that will increase from $29 to $69 per child, and the different categories will be those pre-school, in primary school, high school and those children with disabilities. These children, they are mostly single parent families where there is no source of income to look after the children and these children, need to in school in order to be eligible for the allowance.”

With a new monthly allowance of $90 for Persons with disability, the Children’s ministry will review its allowance for these children and make amendments where appropriate.

The Ministry of Women Children and Poverty Alleviation was allocated $113.4 million dollars for its next fiscal year.
