Five thousand nine hundred and sixty three new recipients are expected to benefit from the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation’s Social Pension Scheme.
The Social pension scheme provides $100 monthly allowance to Fijian who are 65 years of age and older who have no form of income and have never been beneficiaries of a superannuation scheme.
Minister responsible Mereseini Vuniwaqa says the Ministry has been allocated more funding in the new financial year to cater for those in need of assistance.
“My Ministry has received $133 million dollars. This is a total increase of $19.6 million from the last budget allocation. For us at the Ministry and the very important clientele that we serve this budget is not only a family, it is an empowering budget.”
This allocation has been increased by $10.2 million allowing for an expansion to 5963 new recipients.
