The Asian Development Bank has provided $593 million to Fiji since 1970.

This support has been given in the form of $524 million in loans, $35 million in grants, and $34 million in technical assistance.

Economy Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says this increased support has assisted Fiji in enhancing the country’s development agenda.

ADB has also announced an increase in its support to Fiji with an estimated $600million over the next five years.

Sayed-Khaiyum adds that the support will also include technical assistance, which is equally important.

“This is particularly when we do not necessarily have domestic capacity or when your market is getting sophisticated and you need to deal with finding finer answers within the market to be able address new challenges or technology within the market.”

Meanwhile, Australia is providing approximately $4.17 million to support the hosting of the 52nd Asian Development Bank meeting next month.
