57% turnout in hotel union election

Fifty seven percent of voters turned up for the National Union of Hospitality, Catering and Tourism Industries elections yesterday.

Members are voting for a new General Secretary.

Fijian Elections Office Supervisor Mohammed Saneem says polling continues at 11 hotels and resorts today.

Saneem adds that polling closes at 5pm and counting will begin promptly at the Hexagon Hotel in Nadi.

Veteran trade unionist Daniel Urai and MereaniQoro, who previously worked in the tourism industry and is now self-employed, are the two candidates vying for the post.

There are 1984 members in the union.
