501 dengue fever cases recorded

The Ministry of Health has recorded a total of 501 cases of dengue fever.

Macuata Province in the Northern Division recorded the highest number of cases at 378.

National Communicable Diseases Adviser, Dr Mike Kama says dengue fever can be fatal.

“There has been some suspicion of deaths in the Northern division. However, we haven’t received anything at our headquarters in our administration section at the Health Information Unit on deaths at the moment. So we haven’t notified anything on deaths so far."

47 cases have been recorded in the Central Division while 56 cases have been recorded in the West.

Dengue fever is spread by dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

The Ministry is urging the public to destroy mosquito-breeding places like stagnant water and use mosquito repellent.
