Eighty Fijians have returned their Homes CARE M-PAISA cards over the last two weeks an increase from 30 after the Amnesty for ineligible recipients was announced.
Permanent Secretary for Social Welfare, Dr. Josefa Koroivueta says only 48 hours remains on the amnesty period with more returns expected.
“The figure shows that 80 have returned the Homes CARE M-PAISA card and eight has returned the E-Transport Card as well.”
Amnesty for ineligible recipients will end tomorrow (Friday), after which hefty penalties will apply to those Fijians found to have breached the requirements of the assistance.
A $20 000 fine in addition to a 10 year imprisonment term exists under the False Information Act 2016.
Meanwhile more than $68 million has been spent under the Homes CARE initiative to assist around 60 thousand Fijians from Ra through to Sigatoka as well as Labasa.
