5.1 Magnitude Earthquake felt in the West

An earthquake of 5.1 Magnitude was felt in the Western Division this morning reportedly striking 100 km from Ba.

The earthquake struck at 12.45 am off shore in a depth of 10km.

Residents from Lautoka, Nadi and Ba took to social media to post about the tremors they felt questioning whether others felt it as well and also describing how scary it was to be woken from their sleep.

The Mineral Department’s Seismology unit in a statement highlighted that the moderate size earthquake with shallow depth was a felt event, however it did not pose any immediate threat to the region.
