400 hectare forest conservation area in Bua

Four hundred and two hectares of iTaukei land in Kilaka, in the district of Kubulau Bua has been set aside as a forest conservation area for 99 years.

The Kilaka Forest Conservation Area Management Plan has been launched by Minister Forests Osea Naiqamu.

The Conservation Area is located on the upper catchments of the Kilaka River and landowners have been voluntarily protecting the forest over the last 10 years.

Kilaka Forest is said to have one of the last standing native trees in Vanua Levu.

A recent survey by the Ministry of Forests also found the area rich with many native trees.
