A 40 year old man who raped his 47 year old sister in law in Tavua in 2015 has been sentenced in absentia to 10 years imprisonment with a non-parole period of 8 years.
The court heard that the man committed the offence 0n 8th November 2015 when the victim was living alone in a house based in an isolated place.
The victim ran outside the house to seek help however the man chased her and dragged her back into the house and raped her.
Lautoka High court Judge Justice Aruna Aluthge said that the accused breached the victim’s trust when he committed the offence.
High court Judge also said that the doctor who examined the victim after the incident confirmed that the patient had not only received physical; injuries but had been affected psychologically.
The High court Judge has also issued a committal warrant against the accused and the sentence starts to run from the date the accused is arrested.
