The National Apprenticeship Scheme is currently under review and four major changes are expected to be made.

These includes ownership, funding, design of the apprenticeship scheme and its delivery.

Fiji Higher Education Commission Director, Lynda Aumua says they are working to ensure the scheme is more inclusive rather than specific to other institutions.

Aumua says they will also look at a sustainable funding that can be both complimentary to the government, students and to the organizations that’s delivering the scheme.

“The other is the design of the apprenticeship scheme and how we are actually going to facilitate the process and support the students through the system because the system is not just about the first year, its actually continuous through to the 4th year and also how we actually propose to deliver it and that could be through higher education institutions.”

She adds they are also working to design how the scheme will be delivered to the industry.

The review taskforce is currently in its last phase of review.
