4.6 magnitude tremors felt

The Mineral Resources Department has confirmed there is no risk of tsunami from the tremor felt at 2.35 this afternoon.

Director Malaki Finau says the earthquake measuring 4.6 on the richter scale was felt between Lami to Nausori because of its shallow depth.

The earthquake occurred only 13.9 kilometeres below the surface.

Its epicentre was located 2.3 kilometres North North West of Lami and 7 kilometres North North West of Suva.

Finau adds the tremor should not cause any major damage to infrastructure or buildings.

Minutes after the quake, a number of buildings were evacuated as a safety measure.

FBC News received calls from places like Colo – I – Suva, Vatuwaqa, Delainavesi, Nine Miles Nausori and numerous other places asking about the tremor.

A few also reported pot and pans falling off shelves.
