July 16, 2018 7:16 pm

36 families will have a new roof over their heads with the Public Rental Board completing a block of new flats at Kalabu Housing in Nasinu.

Prime Minister – Voreqe Bainimarama was on hand to commission new homes yesterday and highlighted policies in place to ensure more Fijians have access to better and more affordable housing.

“Funded to the tune of $10million by my government. Just as families are the heart of Fijian society, the home is the heart of any family and that is what your development represents for your family, a home, a place where your children can grow up.”

For new tenant Karmila Prasad, it took two years to process her application but the wait was worth it as she will get to spend school holidays with her children.

“ I’m very happy, I think I’m out of stress now, it was very hard for me.”

Meanwhile Local Government Minister – Parveen Kumar says a number of other areas have been earmarked for development similar to that of Kalabu Housing with renovations expected for the current low-cost housing estates in Newtown.
