A 21-year-old man of Lautoka has been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting his cousin.

The perpetrator had been living with the victim and her family at the time.

The court heard that the accused on multiple occasions approached the victim while she slept and sexually assaulted her.

He was discovered one night by the victim’s mother and the matter was consequently reported to the police.

He pleaded guilty to 3 counts of sexual assault and 1 count of indecent assault.

The court has suspended the last 12 months of his 3 year sentence.
