Two hundred and sixty-seven people of Navuca and Nakorouto settlement in Tailevu now have proper access to electricity.
This is part of the Rural Electrification Project which was commissioned by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday.
Bainimarama says this is to also ensure that Fiji’s 8 years of economic growth is being shared by everyone.
“We’ve grown our economy every year for the past eight years, and it is our duty to transform that prosperity into real development that makes a real difference in the lives of people. That is what the Fijian Constitution demands that is what the Fijian people deserve and that is the spirit that has driven my government ambitious agenda for development.”
Bainimarama adds that children in this settlement will be able to study and live in a more sustainable and safer environment.
Meanwhile, $42.6 million was allocated to electrify homes in rural areas around the country this year.
