25-year-old father jailed for hitting his children

A 25-year-old-father of two who was guilty of various offences has been sentenced to two years imprisonment.

The man was convicted with two counts of act causing actual bodily harm and one count of act with intent to cause grievous harm.

Between June 11th – 18th this year, he punched and hit his three-year-old and four-year-old daughters on various occasions.

He also used a broom handle, charger, and sticks to hit his daughters.

As a result, his youngest daughter was admitted in hospital on June 13th after sustaining multiple bruises and injuries on her face.

While sentencing the accused, High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar said this is a serious offence as children were involved.

Goundar said the accused took advantage of his children’s vulnerability and breached the trust of his daughters and his wife.

He said the victims suffered physical and psychological trauma.

Goundar said the court denounces family violence and an interim domestic violence restraining with standard non-molestation order has been put in place until further order by the Family High Court.

He has 30 days to appeal.
