More than twenty-four million dollars’ worth of assistance has been provided by the Japanese government to Fiji since 1990 to date.

While making another financial pledge today, Japan’s ambassador to Fiji Mashahiro Omura says this is a continuation of their strong relationship.

Omura says the Japanese government has provided eighty-four thousand dollars to the Lautoka City Council to buy a five tonne garbage truck.

“I am pleased to inform you that this project is in line with Fiji government’s national development objective. Such development harmonization is the key to Japan’s development cooperation with this country.”

Lautoka City Council’s chief executive Jone Nakauvadra says the assistance is timely.

The Japanese government has to date funded over three hundred and fifty-eight projects in Fiji.
