Twenty two people were charged with forty seven incidents of serious sexual offences last month.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has released statistics in relation to formal indictments filed in the High Courts of Fiji.

According to the statistics, there were 36 cases of rape, 2 attempted rapes, 4 indecent assaults and 5 sexual assaults.

There were a total of 12 victims of serious sexual offences under the age of 18 years.

According to ODPP there were five sexual offences that occurred where the victims were related to the accused person and of this, one was marital rape.
