21 people charged with serious sexual offences in October

Twenty one people were charged with a total of 38 separate incidents of serious sexual offences last month.

Thirty of the offences were rape, seven of sexual asault and one case of defilement.

Of the 38 incidents, there were 20 victims, 15 of who were under the age of 18 years.

Of these 15, seven were between the ages of 3 and 11, while eight were between the ages of 12 and 17.

There were 11 rape victims under the age of 18 years, three victims of sexual assault and there was one victim of defilement.

Three rape cases were discontinued before the Courts after discontinuances or Nolle Proseque were filed.

One serious sexual offence involved a child 3 years of age.

There were 14 serious sexual offences involving relatives.

Of these 14, there were 10 rape matters and 4 sexual assault matters.
